Unions plan rallies to protest new Greek measures

The country's umbrella civil servants' union, ADEDY, and the PAME labor union which is affiliated with the Communist Party (KKE) were to hold two separate protest rallies on Friday night as Greek MPs prepare to vote on a multi-bill of measures.

ADEDY's really is to start at 7 p.m. at central Syntagma Squar, outside Parliament. In a statement, the union slammed SYRIZA's coalition with Independent Greeks for extending to the public sector the pension cuts and increases to retirement age that have already been established in the private sector.

It said the multi-bill contained measures that would crush lower income Greeks.

PAME's rally is to begin at Omonia Square at 6.30 p.m. The union railed against the "destruction of social welfare" and "a new barrage of taxes."
