Guards at Trikala prison discover tunnel project
Prison officers at Trikala jail in central Greece have discovered the makings of a tunnel in one of the facility’s cells.
The Justice Ministry said the discovery was made during a search on Friday in a wing that is mostly reserved for criminals serving long sentences.
An investigation has been launched into how inmates were able to begin digging the tunnel.
The ministry did not comment on reports that a prisoner with a history of breakouts was about to be transferred to the jail in question.
