Basic fare on Athens public transport rises from 1.20 euros to 1.40

The price of regular tickets on the Athens public transport system increased on Monday.

The basic fare now costs 1.40 euros, rather than the previous 1.20. However, the duration of the ticket has increased from 70 minutes to 90 minutes.

The price rise was first announced several months ago, when the value-added tax rate for transport went up from 13 to 23 percent. The delay was attributed to the change in the management of the Athens Urban Transport Organization (OASA).

Last week it was announced that the cost of monthly, three-month, six-month and annual travelcards had also increased.
