Greek ministry sues two mayors over landfill row
The general secretary responsible for waste management at the Interior Ministry, Evangelos Kapetanios, on Tuesday submitted a legal suit with the Supreme Court against the mayors of Agrinio and Vonitsa, Giorgos Papanastasiou and Theodoros Apostolakis, over their alleged refusal to accommodate waste from other parts of the country as a temporary measure.
According to the general secretary, the two mayors refused to accept the waste from the municipalities of Pyrgos and Ancient Olympia in the Peloponnese, a move that the ministry had proposed as a temporary measure until the creation of a landfill in Amaliada.
