Change in checks on wealth forms
A draft law has been prepared by the government that will change the way checks on derivation of wealth forms (“pothen esches”) are carried out.
Currently, the forms submitted by ministers, MPs, regional officials, judges, civil servants, military officers, journalists and others (a total of some 57,000 people) are all checked by a special parliamentary committee, which has limited resources.
Under the would-be law, the committee would only check the declarations made by national and regional politicians, while all the other people on the list would be reviewed by the Anti-Money Laundering Authority. The move is seen as improving authorities’ chances of finding discrepancies and omissions.
