Terrorist claims not be put off by failed prison break

Nikos Maziotis, the jailed leader of the Revolutionary Struggle terrorist group, said on Wednesday that he would not be deterred in his effort to break out of jail after a recent failed attempt to help him escape by his partner and fellow urban guerrilla Pola Roupa.

In a statement Maziotis labeled Roupa’s attempt to hijack a helicopter for his escape on February 21 a “revolutionary act.”

The breakout was foiled when the helicopter pilot tussled with Roupa and landed the aircraft north of Athens. Roupa escaped on foot.

“The operation’s failure will not break us,” said Maziotis, who added that he wants to return to “armed action.”

His letter was published on the Greek version of the Indymedia website.
