Elderly man charged with manslaughter through neglect after dog fatally injures boy

A prosecutor in the northern city of Kozani on Tuesday charged the 72-year-old owner of two Rottweilers, which attacked and killed a 5-year-old boy on Easter Sunday, with manslaughter through neglect and ordered his release from custody pending his trial.

The boy had been celebrating on Easter Sunday with his family when the dogs jumped out of their enclosure and attacked him, biting his face and neck.

The 5-year-old was rushed to the hospital where he underwent surgery but his injuries were severe and he died of blood loss. The dogs were put in a stray dog shelter.
