Man faces prosecutor in Serres for beating, burning two dogs

A 37-year-old man faced a prosecutor in Serres, northern Greece, on Monday after allegedly beating the dogs to death before burning them.

According to local reports, the 37-year-old, a municipal employee on a short-term contract, visited the city kennels to feed the dogs on Saturday afternoon.

The man claims to have been forced to beat the dogs to death after they attacked and bit him.

Colleagues of his later found the burned remains of the two dogs and alerted the local police.

Officers subsequently arrested the man. A search of his clothes turned up 10 sedative pills.
