Northern Greece hit by more than 25,000 thunders

More than 25,000 thunderbolts struck northern Greece within a 12-hour period on Monday, according to a meteorologist at Makedonia Airport in Thessaloniki.

Some 17,000 thunderbolts hit central and western Macedonia.

According to meteorologists, the extraordinary rate of strikes was due to high-altitude storms.
