MPs approve prior action to overhaul Civil Aviation Authority

Coalition lawmakers on Thursday approved another pending prior action tied to the next loan tranche of 2.8 billion euros, an overhaul of the country’s Civil Aviation Authority.

The bill was backed by MPs of the two parties in the coalition as well as the small Union of Centrists. New Democracy accused the government of having failed to produce a properly evaluated plan for restructuring the authority. It also claimed that certain provisions of the bill provided “windows” for the government to recruit more of its own supporters.

Athens hopes to get the green light for the 2.8 billion euros at a meeting of eurozone finance ministers scheduled for Monday.
