Aegean islands see increase in migrant arrivals

Arrivals of migrants from neighboring Turkey have seen a slight increase in recent days with the Aegean island of Chios receiving 64 migrants on Sunday night after 10 days of no arrivals at all.

Over the weekend, in addition to the 64 migrants on Chios, 116 people reached Lesvos and 156 arrived on Samos.

Overall the number of migrants in reception centers on five islands of the eastern Aegean – Lesvos, Chios, Samos, Leros and Kos – stood at 11,559 on Monday, more than double the combined capacity of 5,000 people.
