Greeks delaying marriage due to financial struggles
Young people continue to be among the hardest hit by the Greek crisis, as new statistics show rising frustration due to financial constraints and lack of opportunities to better themselves.
The impact is not just financial, but also social as young people are delaying marriage and continuing to live at home due to the fact they can’t afford to pay for living expenses on their own.
According to a study by In4Youth, less than 10 percent of those aged between 25 and 29 are married, with the rate not exceeding 36 percent for those between the ages of 30 and 34. More than half of all under-30s live with their families.
Financial stress among young people also ties into frustration over the country’s politics as 86 percent of those surveyed expressed disappointment with Greece’s Parliament, with only 13 percent saying they trust the country’s political system.
