Boreholes unsatisfactory

The Athens Water Company (EYDAP) is using tap water on most of the Olympic greenery, despite having made a commitment to use only water from bores or other sources. Apart from the bores drilled at the OAKA site, most of the greenery projects are being fed town water by means of the EYDAP grid. Yet EYDAP will need enough water during the Games to supply households, hundreds of thousands of visitors and cruise ships docked at Piraeus as well as the greenery. Although studies were made by the Institute of Geology and Mineral Exploration (IGME), the bores that were drilled have proved unsatisfactory, either because they produced insufficient water or because there was no grid to transfer the water to the areas that needed it. Moreover, there has been minimal use of recycled water from the Biological Center at Metamorphosis.
