Replace War Museum with Goulandris art museum?
You report there is no site for the Goulandris Foundation’s proposed art museum to be found (January 30). I suggest there is an excellent site: The one which is now occupied by the War Museum, an architectural eyesore, a monstrosity commemorating the colonels’ tyranny, and an insult to Greek and foreigner alike. Its meager contents can easily be redistributed amongst existing outstanding museums, from the Benaki to the National Museum. I.M. Pei’s art museum is surely better suited to enhance the much-sought reputation of Greece as a cultured nation and of Vassilisis Sophias Avenue as a world-class avenue. The villagers said they mistrusted police and demanded removal of police checkpoints from the area.
