Bank workers call new strike
Many banks will be closed tomorrow due to a 24-hour strike called by workers yesterday in protest to changes being made to the pension rights of Emporiki Bank employees. OTOE, the Federation of Bank Employee Unions, said yesterday that Emporiki Bank will also be shut today as employees protest against an amendment submitted to Parliament on Friday. The amendment, prepared by the Finance and Employment ministries, states that employees at Emporiki Bank will be required to join a central fund in the sector for their secondary pension. OTOE said it will aim to coordinate protests with the country’s largest union group, GSEE. Additionally, OTOE has organized a march in central Athens tomorrow to the Finance and Labor ministries.
