A scene from Goethe’s interpretation of ‘Iphigenia in Tauris,’ which was performed at the Herod Atticus Theater yesterday for the second night in a row. The performance is an interpretation of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s play, which is based on Euripides’ original classic. The play, which draws heavily on the ‘Sturm und Drang’ (Storm and Stress) tradition that preceded Germany’s Romantic period, is directed by Vassilis Papavassileiou, who is also in the cast. ‘Iphigenia in Tauris’ raises the curtain on the Athens Festival’s theatrical program for this summer.
