Suspect’s home goes up in flames again

A 67-year-old murder suspect remanded in prison in Hania, Crete, has had his home set on fire for a second time in the last few weeks, authorities said yesterday, in what appears to be the emergence of a vendetta. The suspect, Stelios Nikitakis, is accused of shooting to death Yiannis Theodoroglakis, aged 55, on May 24. Nikitakis turned himself in to police and told authorities that he had «personal differences» with the victim, whom he alleges that he did not intend to kill. A few days after the alleged murder, unknown men set fire to his motorbike, which had been parked in his home’s basement. Police said that yesterday’s fire was also the work of arsonists as they found the blaze to have been started by material doused with inflammable liquid.
