Tourists pass by a street artist’s interpretation of Leonardo da Vinci’s ‘Mona Lisa’ in front of Cologne’s famous cathedral. But in the unknown artist’s version of da Vinci’s work, the Mona Lisa has had her cheeks adorned with German flags, an apparent expression of support for World Cup host Germany. Germany last hosted the tournament in 1974 and won it in 1990. Yesterday’s second-round match in which Italy beat Australia 1-0 was closely followed by ex-pats from both countries in Greece. Today sees Brazil meet Ghana and Spain face France.
