Ministry gives PCs to farmers, fishermen

The Agricultural Ministry said yesterday that it will supply 11,000 computers to farmers and fisherman in a 14.3-million-euro program that aims to modernize the sectors. Farmers will receive 10,000 PCs while fishermen will get another 1,000. «This initiative is linked with our vision to restructure the Greek farming sector… by implementing modern technology,» the minister said. Technology-friendly farmers and fishermen will get funding for 80 percent of the cost while the ministry will also throw in software and Internet access for two years. People interested in the program can start applying on September 8. Greece remains the European Union’s laggard in the penetration of broadband networks, or connection with high-speed Internet suppliers.
