Vassilis Xeros refuses to testify before judges in Korydallos court Vassilis Xeros, one of three brothers jailed for their part in the November 17 terrorist group, refused to testify yesterday before judges hearing the appeal of the organization’s members. «After you rejected our objections and accepted the false pretrial statements as being true… there is no point in me testifying or answering any questions,» Xeros told the judges at the courtroom in Korydallos Prison. FORGED NOTES Hania couple lose 6,600 euros Police in Hania, Crete, are looking for a 39-year-old man who allegedly put 6,600 euros’ worth of forged banknotes into circulation. Officers said yesterday that the man took a 7,000-euro deposit from a couple in Hania in December for a car he was going to import from Germany. The couple later changed their minds and asked for the money back. They then gave the money to another car dealer in Hania but bank employees told him the notes were forged. Police said it is the first time that forged banknotes of such high quality have been found in Hania. ND explosion A homemade explosive device went off early yesterday outside New Democracy’s offices in Nea Smyrni, southern Athens, causing minor damage, police said. No one was hurt in the explosion, which took place at around 2.30 a.m. Graves wrecked Authorities revealed yesterday that 15 graves in the Hellenikon cemetery in southern Athens have been vandalized. Vandals damaged the graves between Saturday and Monday, officials said. Antiquities stash A 42-year-old man has been arrested in the prefecture of Rhodope, northeastern Greece, on suspicion of being in possession of several illegally excavated antiquities. Officers found in his possession six bronze coins from the Classical era, eight bronze coins from the Byzantine era as well as various pieces of ancient jewelry. Police also found a metal detector at the man’s home. Shooter arrested A 49-year-old man was arrested yesterday after allegedly shooting a man in a bar in Aghia Varvara, western Athens, early on Friday morning. Police said the suspect shot a 42-year-old man four times with a hunting rifle after being initially physically attacked by the victim for no apparent reason. The victim, who suffered serious injuries, is in intensive care. Bank robbery Two armed men yesterday held up a branch of Eurobank in Nea Michaniona near Thessaloniki and made away with an unknown amount of cash, police said. The assailants escaped on motorcycles. It is the branch’s second armed holdup in as many weeks.
