Piraeus club adds to lead

Olympiakos extended its lead at the top of the soccer Super League to 10 points yesterday after beating 10-man Iraklis 2-0, thanks to goals from Predrag Djordjevic and Nery Castillo. The Piraeus club is now on 53 points after 21 games. The crucial moment of the match came in the 29th minute when Iraklis goalkeeper Giorgos Abaris was sent off for a professional foul and captain Djordjevic stroked home the resulting penalty. Castillo secured the points in the 71st minute. Panathinaikos remains third on 42 points after being held to a 2-2 draw at the Olympic Stadium by OFI Crete. On Saturday, AEK drew 0-0 with Ergotelis in Crete. AEK is one point ahead of Panathinaikos and the two rivals meet on Sunday. In Sunday’s other games, relegation-threatened Apollon Kalamarias beat PAOK 3-1. PAOK slipped to fifth place and was overtaken by local rival Aris which drew at Panionios on Saturday. Also on Sunday, Atromitos Athinon drew 1-1 with Aegaleo, Ionikos drew 0-0 with Kerkyra and Xanthi beat Larissa 1-0.
