Ring produced fake EU papers

Two men were arrested in Athens yesterday for their involvement in a racket that allegedly produced fake European Union residency documents for non-EU residents. Police said they discovered an area in Ilion, western Athens, set up with high-tech computers that produced the forged papers for migrants. For a fee ranging between -100 and -500, foreign nationals living illegally in Greece could obtain the documents, which apparently offered Romanian citizenship, authorities said. The two unnamed suspects, both foreign nationals, are expected to face charges today. Meanwhile, police are seeking a third man who is believed to be involved in the operation. The suspects apparently were in possession of many forged certificates, authorities said. Police also discovered equipment with which the fake documents were produced.
