Police find thieving taxi driver

Police said yesterday they have located a taxi driver accused of driving off with the luggage and match ticket belonging to a British tourist, who had come to Athens for the Champions League soccer final last month, after arguing with him over an excessive cab fare. Authorities said the unnamed taxi driver, aged 45, allegedly charged the Liverpool fan 95 euros for taking him from the airport to his hotel, a ride that should have cost less than 25 euros. The visitor, who was accompanied by his children, refused to pay the fare and the two starting arguing. The driver then allegedly sped off from the hotel taking with him the tourists’ belongings that were still in the vehicle. Police said the driver had admitted his part in the incident after being called in for questioning three times in the last few days. During the past week, authorities had questioned more than 50 taxi drivers fitting the description given to them by the victim.
