A disabled person prepares to ascend to the Parthenon…

A disabled person prepares to ascend to the Parthenon yesterday in a special chairlift, which was inaugurated exactly three years ago ahead of the Athens 2004 Olympics. The lift comprises two devices: a stair-climbing platform that rides the handrails mounted along a series of concrete stairs. This leads to a vertical lift, a cage that ascends some 20 meters on rails bolted into the rock face of the Acropolis. The operation of the lift in time for the Olympics drew praise from the disabled community.
