Actor, killer took cocaine

The 31-year-old Georgian national charged with the murder of actor Nikos Sergianopoulos in June 2008 yesterday claimed that his victim had tried to force him to have sex with him at knife-point after they both took cocaine. Addressing an Athens court, David Murtikneli said he lost his grip on reality due to the drug. «Suddenly I saw him standing over me holding a knife. In my confusion, I did not know whether he wanted to kill me or use me sexually,» he told the court. «I felt afraid, offended and I started to struggle. I don’t remember anything else, not even washing the knife,» the suspect added, referring to the weapon with which the 56-year-old actor was repeatedly stabbed. Shown the knife, the suspect could not determine whether it was the actual weapon used in the attack. «I remember a large knife, I don’t remember if it was that one,» he said. The 31-year-old expressed his regret, claiming to have been «out of control.» «I am not a murderer. I did not come here to kill. I seek forgiveness from God and from the victim’s family,» he said.
