One migrant dead, one hurt in burglary
A Bangladeshi immigrant was killed and a compatriot seriously injured yesterday after two intruders broke into their home in the Athens district of Kato Patissia and knifed them repeatedly, police said. Officers said that they found the two men in a pool of blood in their apartment yesterday morning shortly after neighbors reported the break-in at 8.30 a.m. The body of the dead migrant was covered in stab wounds, while the second Bangladeshi had been knifed in the chest and stomach, police said. According to the surviving migrant, who was transferred to the hospital, the intruders were Iraqi nationals who had entered the apartment with the aim of pocketing cash and valuables. A growing population of undocumented migrants in districts close to the city center has fueled tensions, provoking clashes between migrants of different ethnic origins.
