Tourists walk through a sweltering city center
Tourists cross a near-deserted road in central Athens yesterday when temperatures reached 38 degrees Celsius (100.4 Fahrenheit). The capital was even hotter on Saturday when temperatures hit 41C (105F), making it the hottest day of the year. Municipal authorities set up air-conditioned ‘friendship clubs’ for the elderly to escape the heat.
