MONDAY Ecumenical Patriarch Vartholomaios to visit Megara, west of Athens. In the afternoon, he will be the guest of honor at a ceremony at the War Museum in Athens where the newspaper Apogevmatini will present a book on the Asia Minor campaign. At 7 p.m., Vartholomaios will be awarded an honorary doctorate by the Agricultural University. – Foreign Minister George Papandreou attends EU General Affairs Council meeting in Brussels. TUESDAY Ecumenical Patriarch Vartholomaios to visit Leontios School in Nea Smyrni. At 12 noon, he will inaugurate the Center for Medical Biological Research at the Athens Academy. At 6 p.m. he will attend a presentation of the series «Library of Church Law» by Sakkoulas publishers at Old Parliament. At 7 p.m., inauguration of exhibition of photographs by Nikos Maginas on Vartholomaios’s 10 years as patriarch, at the Byzantine Museum. FRIDAY Defense Minister Yiannos Papantoniou hosts a two-day meeting of EU defense ministers at Rethymnon, Crete. Because of Denmark’s opt-out from defense and economic issues, Greece has been presiding over these committees since July. – Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmusen starts European tour in Athens. SATURDAY NATO’s Destined Glory 2002 exercise begins. More than 8,000 personnel, about 70 ships and 170 planes from Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Turkey, the United Kingdom and United States will take part in exercises near Rome, on Sardinia, in the Tyrrhenian and Ionian seas.
