Who’s in control?

The pandemic was a stress test for the country’s hospitals, but also its nursing homes.

Several cases of criminal negligence have come to light that also reveal shortcomings in the state’s ability to check whether such facilities are operating properly.

The most recent, at a facility in the Piraeus suburb of Korydallos, has confirmed the need for more drastic inspections by the central administration, in cooperation with regional authorities.
