Divisions of yesteryear
The mandate delivered by the people of Greece on May 21 was, among other things, a scathing condemnation of hostile politics and divisive rhetoric. It demonstrated the people’s aversion toward opposition that is barren of substance and speeches that seek to revive old dividing lines.
People do not vote in terms of dogma and ideology so much anymore, but for proposals that address their real problems. Trading on anger and easy promises is a tactic that no longer works. Society has turned a page.
