Our politicians are obviously unable to rise to the occasion in these historical times.
The prime minister agrees that we need a government of trully capable people, yet he continues to be led by those within his party who want nothing to change significantly in the way it governs. The opposition leader consistently refuses to back the government in its reform effort, opting instead for ideas that belong in 2004.
Meanwhile, union-led protests are picking up pace and threatening tourism revenues on which we depend so much. Our partners don?t want to see Greece crash but we insist on trying their patience.
The issue that remains is whether the prime minister and the opposition leader are capable to doing what needs to be done. If it is found that they are not, then Greece needs to form a new government soon whose only task will be to negotiate a new deal that will get the country out of the bankruptcy trajectory.
