Solving the Gordian Knot
The leftist-led government, as well as the country, have both been seriously damaged and exposed to risk from the evident indecision and repeated contradictions dogging the ongoing negotiations with our foreign lenders.
It has become clear by now that there are two different negotiating teams that are following two different strategies, each communicating their own goals and ambitions in their own style.
The one group, which has over the recent period conducted negotiations in the Brussels Group meetings, has admittedly managed to build a certain degree of credibility and to win some allies. At the same time, however, the other team is doing its best to obstruct progress.
The only person who can cut this Gordian knot is the prime minister. Prolonging the current parody will have catastrophic consequences for Greece.
