A telling delay

The embarrassing delay in the compilation of the country’s first land register, now said to be in its final phase, speaks volumes about the quality of policy administration in Greece, which was recently placed at the bottom of an international survey also measuring executive capacity.

Four municipalities – namely Athens, Volos, Lamia and Livadia – are set to be inducted into the country’s land register eight years after the process was launched.

This, of course, is not the end of the story, as another three-and-half years will be needed, according to estimates, for the project to come to a close.

In fact, more time will be needed in the case of objections from property owners who will be summoned by authorities to check the accuracy of the details they submitted in 2008. Here’s hoping.
