Thanks for great Olympic memories

Congratulations to Athens and the Greek people for the best Olympic Games ever. The venues were superb, the organization of the events was outstanding, the transportation system worked perfectly, the city buzzed with activity, the volunteers were ever-cheerful and helpful, and the «Welcome home» was sincere and warm. Greece made the athletes from around the world feel cherished and helped them to reconnect with the heritage of the Games. Thank you, Athens and Greece, for regrounding the Olympic Games in the traditions on which they were based. CRAIG A. MASBACK -CEO – USA Track & Field. To all of Greece and its people, magnanimous congratulations for organizing and presenting to the world the XXVIII Olympic Games, embracing the original spirit of the Olympics. It was truly a Dream Olympics that only Hellas could have dared to dream. As a Greek American who has visited Greece several times in the past 15 years, my heart and soul was lifted to unbelievable pride as I watched the shot put competition at the ancient site of Olympia. Truly, on that day, the Gods must have awakened, looked down, smiled, and uttered a BRAVO! NICHOLAS GIANOPOULOS -Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA. I would like to thank all the people of Greece who hosted a warm, wonderful and outstanding Olympics. Your country is so beautiful, the people so very warm. I am still envisioning the tempting blue waters hit by sunlight and the magnificent Parthenon and Acropolis illuminated in the summer nights. Greece is to be congratulated for a job well done. I enjoyed two weeks on the Aegean – even it was through television. Thank you so much. SUSAN ANZOVINO – Cleveland, Ohio, USA. As a Greek and as an American, I wish to offer Greece hearty congratulations for hosting a brilliant Olympic Games. The Greek people of Athens have once again rediscovered the beloved traditions of philoxenia and philotimo, and have shown these virtuous traditions to the whole world. For two weeks of watching coverage of the Games here in the US and reading many articles and blogs from journalists, sportscasters, and television hosts, all of which have been overwhelmingly positive, my emotions have been high. I think that I have cried more tears of joy and pride these past two weeks than I have cried for my own children. People of Greece, my beloved compatriots, I have had my ups and downs through the years with you, but you have made me very, very proud, and I love you. God bless you, and congratulations, once again. ALIKI MARIE LOS -via e-mail. My wife, our 12-year old son, and I have loved every minute of these Olympic Games. It’s as if the world stopped the war for the Olympics and now that the Games are over, we go on as before. Greece has done a magnificent job and we are very proud of you. The television coverage showing the beauty of your country and the kindness of your citizens has been very moving. I couldn’t afford to take my family to the Olympics this year and had not even considered it. Now, after this wonderful gift of these 16 days in August, I promise that we will someday visit the «Cradle of Democracy.» Thank you for putting on the best Olympics ever and God Bless. DENNIS EATON – Rockledge, Florida, USA. Please let us compliment the Greek people. This was a huge undertaking (as were the 1988 Winter Olympics for our small city) for your country and we are much impressed. We have never visited Greece but have always wanted to. Now that desire seems much more urgent. The Games were beautiful, artistic, and cultured. Bravo. D. PELLETIER AND D. BICCUM -Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
