FLORAKIS ARRESTED: Prime Minister Field Marshal Alexandros Papagos has issued the following statement: «The Greek government is pleased to announce to the Greek people and the free world that the Greek State has achieved its greatest success in the struggle against communism since the end of the war against the bandits. (…) Heading the new cadres of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) who have entered Greece from behind the Iron Curtain is Harilaos Florakis, alias ‘Capetan Yiotis,’ also the deputy leader of the bandits, who has been arrested by officers of the Athens general security police.» (…) The number of communist conspirators arrested during three months of investigations and searches by the authorities totals 40, of whom many are women. The arrests were made in Athens, Piraeus, Thessaloniki and Larissa. ONASSIS AND NIARCHOS: One of the two yachts expected in Tourkolimano arrived yesterday. It was the Creole belonging to shipowner Stavros Niarchos. The other yacht, the Eros, is expected within the next few days, as well as a cruiser belonging to Mr Aristotle Onassis.
