Effective transparency

It is no secret that the decade-long economic crisis has left scars in the Greek armed forces, and now it appears that simply patching them up and covering the lost ground will not be sufficient for meeting the country’s needs.

The armed forces need to be overhauled and modernized – and this is something that costs money.

The current situation will help in highlighting the importance of the changes that need to be made and in securing public consent for the redistribution of resources that these changes will require.

But it goes without saying that any effort to bolster the country’s defenses should not only be operationally effective but must also meet two conflicting but not mutually exclusive goals: speed and complete transparency.
