Recent events indicate that the withdrawal – under duress – of a plan at the start of the year for the management of the refugee crisis was a big mistake.
Retreat did not just result in dangerous gaps in the reception system, it also gave the impression in certain quarters that what they say goes.
Denial, though, exacerbates the dangers and intransigence puts local communities at risk.
