GREECE IN NATO: Lisbon, 20 (From our correspondent S. Theodorou) – At today’s opening session of the Ninth Congress of the North Atlantic Council (…), the Greek delegation was welcomed enthusiastically by all the other delegations and observers. There was no question that the leader of the Greek delegation, Sophocles Venizelos, was applauded longer than any of the other speakers today. BELOYIANNIS GROUP: Yesterday, the fifth day of the trial of communist spies, the focus was on the testimony of the witnesses for the prosecution, concluding with the general director of the Athens police force, Mr Panopoulos, who has been directing the entire investigation into the case. ATHINA YIANNIOU: Athina Yianniou, a pioneer in the struggle of Greek women to acquire their rights within the framework of national life, died the day before yesterday. The wife of a socialist ideologist, Yianniou was involved in the social struggles in Greece, particularly those of women, as soon as she arrived in Athens from Makryhori, Istanbul, where she headed a girls’ school for a number of years after graduating from the city’s Zappeion School.
