TUBERCULOSIS TAMED: New York, 23 – The major news of the day is the discovery of an effective drug against tuberculosis. The drug kills the Koch bacillus and is likely to restore the health of millions of people suffering from this fatal disease. In the USA, the news was received with great rejoicing. The American newspapers printed large photographs of cured consumptives, who had reached the final stages of the disease before being treated with the new drug. The announcement from the Seaview Hospital, where the experimental treatment of 44 patients was carried out, said that before receiving the drug, all patients had fevers, 42 of whom recovered within 2-21 days. (…). The new drug has been known for some time in chemistry and medicine. (…). The enormous importance of the new medication lies in that it kills the tuberculosis microbe directly. IN GREECE: There are about 120,000 consumptives, of which 10,300 cases are serious.
