PAVLOS TO EISENHOWER: New York, 25 (From our correspondent Solon Kondomitros) – According to reliable sources, His Majesty King Pavlos has sent a personal message to US President Dwight D. Eisenhower asking for the intervention and support of the American government, and Eisenhower personally, on the Cyprus issue. According to the same sources, the king’s message underscored the fact that his government had exhausted all avenues of compromise. Meanwhile, the situation continues to create dangers for the cohesion and unity of the free world of the West. It is believed that the king’s initiative was prompted by the fact that within the next few days broader diplomatic efforts will begin in Washington due to the expected arrival there of NATO Secretary-General Paul-Henri Spaak, who is expected to ask for Washington’s help in solving the Cyprus issue. Spaak has suggested a new plan to the Greek, Turkish and British governments, providing for a summit of the three countries and also including representatives of the Greek Cypriots and Turkish minority on the island. The summit would also examine the Macmillan Plan and one by Archbishop Makarios that has the approval of Cyprus’s mayors.
