PAPANDREOU-KARAMANLIS: During yesterday’s parliamentary debate on the Cyprus issue, Georgios Papandreou strongly criticized the government, describing the past six months’ negotiations on the Cyprus issue as a period of panic. He drew attention to what he said were a series of political and tactical mistakes on the part of the government. Prime Minister Constantine Karamanlis then accused the opposition of making extravagant claims, saying that when they themselves were in power, the opposition party had not even dared to raise the Cyprus issue. BRECHT IN GREECE: December 12 – The Art Theater is once again to stage Bertolt Brecht’s play «The Chalk Circle,» which was so successful last year. Translated into Greek by the poet Odysseas Elytis, the play’s songs are by Manos Hadjidakis. Meanwhile, at the Kyveli Theater tomorrow night, there is to be a reprise of the City of Athens’s presentation of Brecht’s work. HEROD ATTICUS: December 12 – Work to restore the Herod Atticus Theater is to continue this year. The Education Ministry has announced that it has earmarked 600,000 drachmas for the purpose.
