GLEZOS ARRESTED: 8 – Athens security police have arrested a number of perhaps the most important cadres from the illegal Communist Party of Greece (KKE), who had been engaged in espionage. It appears that officials of the United Democratic Left (EDA) were also involved. Deputy Public Order Minister Evangelos Kalantzis said in a statement that the EDA secretary and editor of the newspaper Avghi, Manolis Glezos, has also been arrested. He also said that some time ago the communist outlaw Costas Koliyiannis (aka Arvanitis), a member of the KKE’s politburo, had entered Greece illegally and that Glezos had been in regular contact with him. JACQUES SOUSTELLE: Paris, 6 – According to the Reuters correspondent here, after its sweeping victory over the communists in the recent general election, the new Gaullist party, the Union for the New Democracy, led by Information Minister Jacques Soustelle, is preparing to oust the Communists from the 1,200 municipalities they control in France, where there are a total of 38,000 local councils. The Communists have a major influence in the areas they control.
