PUBLIC INVESTMENT PROGRAM: Prime Minister Constantine Karamanlis yesterday announced the public investment program for this year, which is to amount to a total 3,050 million drachmas, compared to 2,612 million drachmas last year. This year’s program, along with the parallel investments in organizations controlled by the state, will amount to 5,306 million drachmas, compared to 4,670 last year and 1,466 in 1955. At the same time, the prime minster announced that a five-year public investment program was being drafted, to be announced within due course, to amount to about 1 billion dollars. The five-year program, to include this year’s as well, provides for a 35 percent increase in national revenues, resulting in a per capita income of 360 dollars, compared to 280 currently. The prime minister did not announce the funding source for the new program, either for this year or for the five-year program, but it is expected to do so when the state budget is tabled in Parliament. FIDEL CASTRO: Thousands of bearded revolutionaries marched through the streets of Havana today ahead of the expected arrival of their leader, Fidel Castro, to wild demonstrations of joy on the part of men, women and children.
