Polls predict ND dominance in European election
If the latest opinion polls are confirmed, there will be no big surprise on the night of June 9 regarding the distribution of the 21 seats available to Greece in the European Parliament.
Ruling New Democracy would elect seven to eight MEPs, versus three to four for SYRIA and three for PASOK.
The latest poll published on Friday by Pulse for Skai TV of voting intentions shows the consolidation of ND’s dominance over its rivals, but also a clear picture regarding the second and third place.
The ruling party garnered 28.5%, a slight drop from the 29% it received in the previous poll by the same company.
SYRIZA is in second place with 14.5%, up half a point from the previous poll. PASOK shows a similar increase in percentage, following in third place with 11.5%.
Greek Solution was fourth with 7.5%, followed by KKE (6.5%), with Niki, Course for Freedom and MeRA25 at 3%, ahead of New Left with 2.5%, the Voice of Logic (2%), Democrats (1.6%) and Patriots (1%).
With a breakdown of the undecided, the percentage of ND is estimated at 32% – close to the 33% it got in 2019 and the stated target set by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis – followed by SYRIZA with 16.5%, PASOK with 13%, Greek Solution (8.5%), KKE (7.5%), Niki and Course for Freedom and MeRA25 with 3.5% each, New Left (3%), Voice of Logic (2.4%), Democrats (2%) and Patriots (1.1%).
Mitsotakis was rated as the most suitable candidate for prime minister with 35% of the votes, with “no one” in second place with 23%. SYRIZA leader Stefanos Kasselakis received 13%, followed by PASOK’s Nikos Androulakis with 7%, KKE’s Dimitris Koutsoumbas (5%), Greek Solution’s Kyriakos Velopoulos (5%), Course for Freedom’s Zoe Konstantopoulou (4%), New Left’s Alexis Haritsis (2%) and Niki’s Dimitris Natsios (1%).
