Georgian gala for charity

The Georgian Community of Athens has organized a gala concert for Sunday, May 22, proceeds of which will go to charity.

Renowned for its folk and classical music traditions, Georgia will be represented in the charity event at the Athens Concert Hall by top-bill names, led by bass Paata Burchuladze, who just wrapped up a run of ?The Tsar?s Bride? at the Royal Opera House in London and who is also a UNESCO goodwill ambassador. Proceeds from the Athens event will go in aid of Iavnana, a charity founded by Burchuladze.

Flying in from Georgia for the occasion are pianist Eliso Bolkvadze, the Georgian National Symphony Orchestra and its maestro Nika Memanishvili, as well as the Georgian National Ballet Sukhishvili. They will be joined by Greek soprano Elena Kelesidi, director Spyros Evangelatos, singer and writer Ioanna Kalpaxi and pop idol Tamta, who was born and raised in Georgia but has spent most of her career in Greece.
