Thessaloniki clubs suffer upsets

Kavala and Kolossos scored the wins of the weekend of October 29-30 in the basketball league as they defeated last season’s league semifinalists PAOK and Aris respectively.

PAOK was the favorite in the game at Kavala on Sunday, but the hosts scored an impressive 15-point win (75-60) for their first victory in this season’s A1 division.

Kolossos saw off Aris 75-66 at Thessaloniki in a game played behind closed doors, meaning that the Rhodes club has two wins out of two so far.

Peristeri also made it two out of two with a 10-point win at Ikaros Kallitheas (65-55). It joined favorites Panathinaikos and Olympiakos on top, who had easy games over the weekend.

Champion Panathinaikos visited newly promoted KAO Dramas. A capacity crowd in the northern city saw the Athens giant win 95-74, but the fantastic atmosphere must have won KAOD many friends on Saturday.

Olympiakos had no problems at all against a depleted Maroussi on Sunday afternoon, winning 92-63 at home.

Finally, Panionios managed to fend off a late Ilisiakos comeback to win the small Athens derby 76-66 on Saturday evening.
