Second Greek sportsman to die of leukemia

Greek rower Efstratios Alexidis has become the second Greek sportsman to die of acute leukemia in the last few weeks.

The 26-year old passed away on Sunday in his mother’s native Norway from exactly the same cause as canoe champion Andreas Kiligkaridis last month.

Lesbos-born Alexidis had represented Greece in several competitions between 2003 and 2006, but had not competed at all since 2009.

The Greek Rowing Federation issued a statement on Monday extending its condolences to his family.
