Nicole becomes IAAF Diamond League champion

Greek pole-vaulter Nicole Kyriakopoulou earned herself a ”diamond” by clinching the top spot in the IAAF Diamond League final in Zurich on Thursday, just a few days after securing a bronze medal at the World Championships in Beijing.

The 29-year-old jumper topped the event on the night clearing 4.77 meters, and also finished top of the classification in the pole vault with 24 points, 10 points ahead of its closest rival.

Kyriakopoulou was therefore awarded $40,000 as well as a diamond-shaped trophy.

Another Greek, Kateriona Stefanidi was fifth on the night clearing 4.57 m.
