Vassilis Tsolakidis in action at the World Gymnastics Championships in Melbourne yesterday. Despite qualifying for the parallel bars final tied in equal top spot, Tsolakidis ended sixth with a score of 8.450. Slovenia’s Mitja Petkovsek won gold with 9.700, China’s Li Xiaopeng took silver with 9.675 and France’s Yann Cucherat settled for bronze – one of his two medals for the day – with a 9.662 score. Cucherat also won silver in the high bar. Greece’s Vlassis Maras, a 22-year-old athlete with World and European titles to his credit, ended fifth after qualifying in second spot.
