Interamerican to sponsor national equestrian team

The Interamerican Group yesterday became the official National Sponsor of the Hellenic Equestrian Federation (HEF) until 2004. The group includes insurance company Interamerican, now a part of the Europe-wide Eureko consortium; Novabank, a joint venture with Banco Commercial Portugues; and Euroclinic. The sponsorship, according to Interamerican Chairman Dimitris Kontominas, will include a financial aid package of 360 million drachmas (1.06 million euros) and aid in kind, such as equipment provision, insurance to athletes and animals, and medical care in at Euroclinic. «Of course, do not think we are doing this in order to profit… We are doing it purely to aid the sport.» He added that, in total, the Interamerican Group will contribute over 500 million drachmas (1.5 million euros) to HEF. Alpha TV will serve as communications sponsor. This is the first sponsorship for HEF, which was founded in 1990. New HEF President Isidoros Kouvelos said that the aid, and the impending move of the headquarters from the Athens area of Goudi to modern facilities at Markopoulo, were an excellent opportunity to broaden the base of the sport. «Contrary to what most people think, this is not a sport exclusively for the rich, those who can afford to raise horses by themselves,» Kouvelos said. Referring to the federation’s plans for 2004, Kouvelos said that Greek athletes are already taking, or are about to take, part in international tournaments. For the better preparation of the jumpers, HEF has hired an Englishman, Stephen Hadley, as technical consultant. Similarly, a Dane, Hassa Hoffman, is a consultant with the dressage team. Directed by Tony Scott, starring Robert Redford, Brad Pitt, Catherine McCormack, Stephen Dillane. On his last day of work, a CIA agent has to organize a rescue operation for a younger agent, captured by the Chinese.
